2010 Recap

Yes, another year has almost finished and what a year - economic challenges, the Olympics - I Believe, Proud to be Canadian - great summer weather, real estate instability and let's not forget the opportunity for us to experience all of these events and more . . . - consider the alternative.

Personally we enjoyed the Olympics and all the fan fare, from a distance and took advantage of the great weather and family visiting - had our first beach fire with the grand children.  It is amazing what we do when we have children & grand children to experience it with, it is just a matter of taking the time.  Trish has gotten very active with her Madrona Magic driftwood mirrors, frames & boxes.  Her arthritis is still a great challenge and limits her mobility, however she remains strong and takes advantage of the good days.  In June for our anniversary we did the 'King Swing' off the bungy jump bridge in Nanaimo - what a rush.  Trish also made a trip to Toronto with our daughter to visit relatives.

Due to our kids' work schedules we had the honor of having Christmas the 1st weekend of December.  All the grand children, Jessica & Angus, Nick & Andrea and Angus's parents were here for Christmas Eve - kids got to visit with Santa at Milner Gardens, and Christmas Day on the 4th, complete with 26 lbs turkey.  It was a great time, and yes Santa came overnight.

Trish and I will be spending the Holiday Season with family on the east coast of our great country.  Christmas in New Brunswick with my folks and brother's family - also Mom & Dad's 80th & 85th Birthday.  New Years will be spent in PEI with Trish's sister-in-law.

Real Estate through out the year has been a bit of a roller coaster ride, overall a good year and it is certainly finishing with an unexpected increase in activity.  In January I will update you with a year end overview and maybe, just maybe a forcast for 2011 - once the holiday season is over.

Safely on the Road Again
The holiday season involves lots of extra travel whether you're off to the shopping mall or visiting friends and family.  Here are a few tips to help ensure your safety on the road during this busy time of year:

  1. Wipe the Slate Clean - Replace your wipers if they're not working properly.  They're absolutely critical to your safety, especially at night.

  2. Air On the Side of Caution - Check your tire pressure regularly but do it before driving too far as it changes when the tires warm up.  Don't forget the spare!

  3. Fill 'er Up - Check fluid levels including steering, brakes, transmission and oil.  Refill your windshield wiper fluid frequently and keep a bit extra on hand for emergencies.

  4. Be Prepared - Make sure your car contains a cell phone, first aid kit, blanket, energy bars, water, candles, flashlight, safety flares and some basic tools.

Now that the roads are filling up with holiday traffic, one of the best safety tips you can follow is to take your time while being aware of others.  Properly preparing your car for the winter means you’ll not only be safer but you’ll also have peace of mind.

Naturally Fighting the Common Cold
This is the time of year when viruses spread like wildfire.  Here are a few natural remedies that'll help you feel better:

  • To relieve a sore throat, drink a cup hot water with a ¼ tsp of cayenne pepper mixed in.

  • Cut up and boil an onion to make tea.  Add a bit of lemon to help with the taste.

  • Take 1 tsp of apple cider vinegar in ½ a cup of water every few hours at the first sign of a cold.

Hopefully the nasty viruses will pass you by this season but if you do end up catching a cold, the natural home remedies we've mentioned might just do the trick!
